Karambo Children Centre is a grassroots initiative based in the scenic hills of Rubanda District, South Western Uganda. Our mission is simple: to provide care, education, and dignity to vulnerable children in our community.
We are not part of any international network. We don’t have offices, staff salaries, or administrative overheads. Instead, we work directly with the children — meeting everyday needs like food, shelter, school supplies, and hygiene products.
What makes us different? We’re not trying to look big. We’re trying to be effective, real, and responsive — starting with what we have, right where we are.
Like many small charities, Karambo Children Centre was born out of personal experience and a deep sense of purpose. Seeing the challenges children in the village faced — hunger, school dropouts, and a lack of basic care — inspired action.
With no major funding and no external partnerships, the Centre began simply — helping one child at a time. Over time, it grew into a trusted local space where children could be fed, supported, and given the opportunity to learn.
Today, we support dozens of children each week with meals, classroom materials, uniforms, mattresses, hygiene items, and more.
Karambo Children Centre was founded by Nelco, a local resident who grew up in this very region. Having experienced firsthand what it means to go without — without food, without access to school, without support — he made it his mission to create a safe, nurturing place for the next generation.
With humility, resourcefulness, and a deep love for his community, Nelco has built the Centre from the ground up. He continues to lead the initiative on the ground, ensuring every donation and every effort is used where it matters most.

Our Location
We are located on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi, surrounded by green hills and terraced farmland. While beautiful, this rural region faces serious resource shortages — particularly when it comes to child welfare, education, and healthcare.
It’s in this setting that we do our work: quietly, consistently, and with love.
